Titans of the Desert: Behind the scenes in Palm Springs (NSFW)

Last week was pretty special.

When Titan director Jasun Mark texted me back in May to ask if I’d be available for an upcoming production run and told me who my scene partners would be, I leapt out of my chair. It was a dream opportunity: a week in Palm Springs filming with two guys at the very top of my scene partner wishlist, Nick Prescott and Dallas Steele. Jasun Text, Small 6Jasun also told me the general outline of the film — a detail that I’m not allowed to share with you quite yet — and it was a scenario that I’d always been hoping to explore. I busted my ass for two months to prepare myself physically, all the while corresponding with both Jasun and Titan’s vice president Keith Kebb to offer creative input. I was not only going to be in the film, I was helping write it too!

The week started out inauspiciously enough. Los Angeles was blanketed in dense fog, and LAX was down to one runway for both departures and arrivals. We circled for over an hour waiting for clearance to land, then our pilot gave up and diverted us to Las Vegas. We refueled and eventually made it to LA after midnight, far too late for my connecting flight to Palm Springs. I was supposed to shoot my scene with Nick in the morning, but all the morning flights were full. The Titan guys, rather than ask me to sit around the airport for countless hours waiting for the next available flight (which would have cost them nothing), offered to buy me an ungodly expensive plane ticket on another airline. I suggested I just drive to Palm Springs instead; it’s is only two hours from LAX in the middle of the night without any traffic. So they rented a car for me — a one-way rental (not as expensive as a last-minute flight, but still not cheap) — and it was waiting at the rental car desk when I arrived. I ended up getting to Palm Springs a little after 3 am, a bit tired but none the worse for wear, and able to sleep in a bed instead of a departure lounge. The guys were very appreciative that I’d gone to such great lengths to get there, even though to me it was no big deal… and what’s more, they rearranged the production schedule for me, moving our scene to the afternoon and shooting Nick’s stills in the morning instead, just to give me a few more hours of sleep!

A few behind-the-scenes pics from my scene with TitanMen exclusive Nick Prescott

Let me diverge from the story for a moment here, because this is a great example of why Dirk and I both really appreciate working with a professional studio like Titan. We’ve heard — and in Dirk’s case, experienced — some of the horror stories elsewhere. Filming in the middle of nowhere without any food, unexplained on-set delays that last for hours on end (causing production to last until well after midnight and models to miss flights), promises of scenes that never materialize, production staff who get fired because they dare to leave the set on their day off… Dirk once even paid his own way to Los Angeles to film a scene with a particular studio, but the scene was canceled without explanation after he got there, and Dirk never got reimbursed for his flight or compensated for his time! Needless to say, he’s decided not to work with that studio anymore.

Not all studios are as nightmarish as that. In fact, most are perfectly wonderful to work with, according to Dirk… but Titan stands out as one of the best. At Titan, shoots have always happened for us as planned, the staff is experienced and professional (and friendly!), and when the inevitable hiccup occurs (like my aforementioned fight delay), the guys bend over backwards to make things right. It’s amazing. And how many other studios will cook gourmet dinners for you? Over the course of the week, Keith made us short ribs, frozen yogurt granola bars, carne asada, banana pudding with Nilla wafers, a breakfast strata made with croissants and gobs of cheese, peaches ‘n cream semifreddo… and many other incredible culinary delights. Not the most camera-friendly of diets, but it sure was delicious!

Anyway, back to the story…

The scene with Nick on Tuesday was, predictably, amazing. He’s a fellow Titan exclusive, an incredibly hot guy, and a true professional. We shot it in the bedroom where I was staying (yep, porn sex on an actual bed!) so that made things easy. Our sexual chemistry was fantastic, and Nick looked fucking awesome… and awesome while fucking. (I’ve seen a couple clips from the unedited footage; he’s definitely in rare form.) There was a bit of dialogue at the beginning of this scene — much of which I wrote — and it took us a few takes to make it through the whole thing. In the end I think we sound pretty convincing, but I really hope Jasun makes a blooper reel. (Jasun, if you’re reading this, there’s one particular blooper that got a huge laugh out of everyone. You know the one… please tell me you got it on camera!)

Wednesday was my day off, so I took an Uber into downtown Palm Springs and walked around a bit. Even though it was 105° out, it was surprisingly comfortable, especially in the shade. (Dry heat!) I visited my friends Andy and Bill, the founders of BigMuscle.com, who are opening a bagel shop called Townie Bagels. I missed their grand opening by a couple of weeks, but hope to be back soon. Opening a bagel shop has always been Andy’s dream, and I’m so happy for him. They open in the mid-August… if you’re in the area, be sure to stop by and say hi! I also stopped by Gear to buy some lube. Super nice guys.

Dirk flew into Palm Springs on Wednesday night. He’d been in California for the past week or so, filming a couple of scenes for MEN.com and going to see his friend Curtis’s debut musical Triangle. Titan had something special planned for us on Thursday. I can’t say much about it yet, but the video at the top of this post is part of it. Here’s another video, plus some additional teaser images which we shot in the desert at 7 am, before it got too hot:

Filming a very special project in the desert

Then we went back to the Titan house and filmed some more. This time we laid out by the pool, exercised with boulders, and even filmed a little bit of footage underwater. We filmed until about noon, then had the rest of the day off to lounge around. Dallas and I spent some time prepping dialogue for our scene on Friday, then Dirk, Dallas, and I headed to the gym for a late night workout.

Back at the house, filming continues through the morning…

… followed by an afternoon off.

Friday was a big day… one that I’ll remember for a long time. Jasun summed it up best: “What could have been a torturous project shooting 45 pages of dialogue ended up being a fantastic single-take joy that took about 30 minutes, and we all ended in semi-tears with how Dallas and Jesse let down the curtains and showed us what they’re both made of.” And that was just the dialogue! I’ve never seen (or even heard of) anything like it in porn… we’re talking groundbreaking stuff here!

The sex was hot as fuck, too… I’ve never done a four-position scene before. Four! Let’s just say we — ahem — “covered all the bases.” Here are some behind-the-scenes pics from our scene, which has a planned March 2016 release date (I know that’s a long time to wait, but it’ll be worth it, trust me):

My scene with Dallas Steele

At the end of the shoot, all the models and staff gathered around to toast what was a truly remarkable week in the desert. With shots of Fireball, naturally. Jasun wrote a really nice thank-you note to the entire crew over on the TitanMen blog; you should check it out if you haven’t yet. Thanks, Jasun… I’m proud to be working with you too.

Oh yeah, one other thing… Dallas, Nick, and I weren’t the only ones filming in the desert last week. We were joined by a new guy with the initials “M.B.” — and wait’ll you see him in action.

Eye-black? Knee socks? A Bat? Does this mean we might get the chance to see you in those great baseball pants that make your butt look so nice and push your twig-n-berries front and center?

Some of the train track shots take me back to a Titan classic called MYSTERY TRAIN, that was a big favorite from way back. If you and Jasun and Dirk go back to reference it, you’ll see how uncanny it is that some of the locations mirror where you shot the new video…

Sorry, my bad. It’s actually called DESERT TRAIN (“Mystery Train” is the title of the main theme on the soundtrack). It was some of Bruce Cam’s best work, I thought, with an incredible score and breathtaking cinematography.

These pictures are wonderful – it’s fun to get a peek behind the scenes. It was a surprise to see so much red in Dirk’s beard – this there red in his hair as well?

The wind must drive the sound guys crazy; does all that have to be edited out, or do you dub in dialog later?

Off topic – something I’ve been meaning to ask: I know that you and Dirk have been living together for a few years, but I also gather he travels quite a bit, so I was wondering if your trip to Australia was the most consecutive days you’d spent together? Was it unending bliss, or did that brief solo trip you took (to Melbourne?) come at just the right time? 😉
