Video: Dirk Caber performs piano in Berlin before a sold out crowd!

On September 7 in Berlin, my hubby Dirk — performing under his real name, as he does for all musical endeavors — participated in the third annual Classic Meets Fetish benefit concert in association with Folsom Europe. The concert took place at Zwölf-Apostel-Kirche for a sold-out crowd of over 900 people! Unlike last year’s concert where Dirk performed all original compositions, this year he played some beautiful pieces by other composers… on piano, harpsichord, and tuba! Here’s the first of his performances, a solo piano piece by Federico Mompou called Suburbis. Hope you enjoy it!

I’ll post more video from the concert once I get a chance to edit it. In the meantime, here are a few pics. More to come!

What a fabulous performance, Dirk! How nice of the composer to capture life in suburbia with all its many moods! The middle had a familiar Gershwinesque feel to it, and the end felt like a triumphant TGIF after the last of the week’s carpools is successfully completed and a beautiful, nutritious dinner is set on the table. Bravo!

Bravo! A great performance, especially considering the turmoil of the week before. It’s understandable that some proclaimed Mompou as a successor to Debussy. I wasn’t very familiar with him, and have enjoyed getting better acquainted with his work. A particular favorite is the song “Damunt de tu nomes les flors” which is the first selection of “Combat del somni” or “Dream Battle.” It has also inspired the question: now that we have examples of Dirk’s performances on piano and tuba, what’s the possibility of a post of Dirk the vocal soloist? Perhaps an idea for next year’s Classic Meets Fetish program?

Yea! And may I boldly offer the unsolicited nomination of Hugo Wolf’s “Michaelangelo Lieder” or Maurice Ravel’s “Don Quichotte a Dulcinee” for consideration?

There is just something about a man and a piano! What a beautiful piece of music…full of longing and pain…with a lovely resolution…just exquisite! Thank you so much for posting this….I look forward to seeing the other pieces he performed 🙂
