Bruce Beckham AVN June 2016 (Close Crop, FB-Safe)

Bruce Beckham’s AVN interview, with behind-the-scenes pics!

I’d like to congratulate my friend Bruce Beckham who was just featured in a full-page interview in AVN Magazine! This is a really big deal: AVN is one of the leading industry associations (encompassing all types of adult films, not just gay ones), so to be featured in their magazine is huge. Congratulations, buddy!

As the article mentions, I filmed a scene with Bruce that will be coming out in August… watch for it exclusively at TitanMen.com. In the meantime, check out Bruce’s TitanMen debut in Blueprint with the ultra sexy TitanMen exclusive — and “Manly Man” Grabby winner — Dallas Steele. I’ve also included a bunch of behind-the-scenes pics from Bruce’s first Titan shoot back in March (at the bottom of this post). Enjoy!

Bruce Beckham AVN June 2016GOING PRO: Bruce Beckham is back, and this time he’s serious

By Sherri L. Shaulis

This time around, Bruce Beckham is ready to go all in. The performer, who initially joined the industry nine years ago, rejoined adult in late March, shooting for a number of companies already, including Titan, Falcon, Channel 1 Releasing, and Hot House.

“When I was in the industry before, it was different,” Beckham told AVN. “I didn’t really invest in my career, or do many appearances.”

At the time, Beckham said, he was under contract with Michael Lucas, and the world of porn was completely different. “You didn’t have that immediate interaction with fans,” he said. “There wasn’t social media the way there is now. Before it was up to the studios to promote the films and the performers. Now, the onus is on the models to self-promote through Twitter, Instagram and the like. It’s a whole different game than it was nine years ago.”

Beckham said he initially got into the industry when he was working in Los Angeles as a bartender, but had a few friends who were in the industry. “I had always been curious about doing porn, so I thought I would give it a shot,” he said. The brunette with almost icy blue eyes was in the industry for about four months, shooting a few scenes here and there, when Lucas wanted to put him under contract. But, Beckham said, shooting adult was more of a hobby for him, and his bartending jobs eventually took priority.

“At the time, I said I would do porn until it wasn’t fun anymore,” he said. “It got to be a little too much with the bartending and filming, so I left.” This time around, however, he wants to make more of a name and make a real career in the industry. “I’m in better shape than I have been in my whole life,” he said. “I’d like to work as much as I can for as long as I can. I can really dedicate myself this time around and I plan on making the most of it.”

Making the most of it, he said, includes shooting for a number of companies, but not being tied to just one. But already, some companies are excited to see him back. “His first movie/scene to be released will be with TitanMen,” said Keith Webb of Titan Media. “And we’ve already shot him for three additional movies, shooting him soon for a fourth movie, and have him booked for movies five and six! He is going to be a BIG star and we want to make sure he’s featured in as many TitanMen films as possible.”

Webb and Beckham said the first movie featuring the performer is Blueprint, which debuted in June. Beckham plays an architect in the movie, which also stars TitanMen exclusives Eric Nero and Matthew Bosch, as well as Dirk Caber, Adam Ramzi, and Max Sargent. Webb said Beckham will also be in an August release with TitanMan Exclusive (TME) Jesse Jackman, a September release with TME Matthew Bosch, an October release with TME Eddy Ceetee, a November release with TME Lorenzo Flexx, and a December release with TME David Anthony.

“We’re keeping him busy and pairing him with all our exclusive performers,” Webb said. “Only the very best for Bruce!”

“He’s everything we look for in a Titan Man,” Webb continued. “Handsome, smart, mature, masculine, stunning physique, big dick, and he can deliver dialogue on par with most Hollywood actors. I think the first time around he was young and not quite sure what he wanted. This time around he’s much more mature, much more centered and much more in charge of what he wants to do with his career. He is one of the most grounded, thoughtful, and genuine performers I’ve worked with over the past 20 years. He’s special.”

Interview: Catching Up with the Demon

Note: Back in 2013 I sat down with the adult film blog GayDemon to talk about my favorite scenes, my relationship with Dirk, and my plans for the future. Almost three years later, the site contacted me again, knowing we had a lot of catching up to do. I’ve posted the all-new interview called “Catching Up with Jesse Jackman” below. (You can read the original 2013 interview here… as you can see, I’m still loving life today as much as I was three years ago!) –JJ

Catching Up with Jesse JackmanPosted by GayDemon on 28 Mar 2016

Thanks for speaking to us today! We’re really excited about your new Titan movie, OUT! Can you tell us a bit about it and when we can see?

I’m really excited too! The film is about a fictional hall-of-fame baseball coach named A.J. Benson who comes out during a live TV interview. It was directed by TitanMen lead director Jasun Mark and stars no less than five TitanMen exclusives (Dallas Steele, Nick Prescott, Diesel Washington, Eric Nero, and me), plus hottie Luke Adams and my fiancé Dirk Caber. I co-wrote the screenplay with TitanMen VP Keith Webb and play A.J. in two scenes, one with Nick and one with Dallas. (Both are flip scenes, by the way.) OUT! was announced on February 29, the first scene went live on March 2 at TitanMen.com, and an additional scene was released every Wednesday up until the big finale on March 23.

dvd25_outOUT! is a really hot film — it has over three hours of super-sweaty hardcore action — but what I’m most proud of is the interview segment, which you can watch for free at OutBaseball.com. We shot it last July with Dallas playing the interviewer (he has over 20 years of real-world experience as a newscaster). It covers topics like the difficulties of growing up as a closeted gay athlete, the challenges of being gay in professional sports, and the ways that LGBT public figures can be encouraging to the fans who look up to them. Dallas and I even discuss the little-mentioned economic deterrent of coming out in professional sports, something I wrote about in a recent Huffington Post article. When the emotional interview is over, Dallas’s character confesses that he’s always had a crush on A.J., leading to our scene (which, by the way, was my first ever four-position flip fuck scene). It was an amazing day on set, believe me!

What other exciting projects have you been involved in since we last spoke in November 2013?

There’s been so much great stuff going on! In the last couple of years I’ve filmed a dozen more scenes with Titan, including a couple of them with my hubby Dirk (in Foul Play and Sweat). Dirk and I performed live shows at HustlaBall in both London and Berlin, and we continued our association with a charity in upstate New York called PAWS that helps people living with HIV and AIDS care for their animal companions.

Our beautiful new piano, thanks to YOU!

Our beautiful new piano, thanks to YOU!

But beyond that, two things really stand out to me. The first is that, because of the incredible generosity of our fans, Dirk and I were able to buy a beautiful digital grand piano! Dirk is a professional composer, but his creativity really suffered when he moved away from New York six years ago and lost access to a piano — a tool that’s absolutely vital to his craft. I hatched this crazy idea last year that we could start a GoFundMe campaign, offering people CDs of Dirk’s music, signed scores, and even original, custom-written compositions in exchange for a contribution towards the cost of the instrument. We thought we’d make a few hundred bucks at best, but to our utter shock we raised nearly $13,000… and with a bit of luck scouring the used market, we were able to acquire the piano of Dirk’s dreams. The outpouring of support completely blew us away, and we’re forever indebted to our fans for that. Dirk’s been composing up a storm, which I’ve gotta say is awe-inspiring to witness. We’re now working on getting his pieces recorded, so you can expect to hear some brand new music very soon! (In the meantime, you can listen to some of Dirk’s existing work on his SoundCloud page, soundcloud.com/dirkcaber.)

Then in June of last year, Dirk and I had the incredible opportunity to work with the Victorian AIDS Council in Australia. The VAC flew us to Melbourne to help host a week of events and seminars called Down an’ Dirty, where we talked about topics like safer sex, harm reduction, and building healthy relationships. We were even on the radio! Both of us were very impressed by the dedication of the VAC folks, and Melbourne quickly became one of our favorite cities in the world. We look forward to returning someday.

You’re still going strong with your husband Dirk Caber, right? What’s the secret to a successful partnership such as yours when you’re involved with so many other men?

I think the secret is that we don’t get jealous, and the key to that is making sure that neither one of us ever feels excluded from the other person’s life. We always share the details of our shoots, much the same way that any couple would say “Hey honey, how was work today?” And if either one of us wants to hook up with a hot guy away from a porn set, the other is always welcome to join in. In fact, we only have one rule in our relationship: “Never bring home anything you don’t want to share.” It works on all sorts of levels, from hook-ups to STDs to take-out pizza.

We’ve already talked in our previous interview about things you enjoy doing in your spare time, and you shared your blog and Huffington Post column. Is there anything new to add?

I’m happy to say that the scope of my writing has expanded a bit since we last spoke. In February, I wrote my first mainstream political article (not LGBT-focused, as was the case in my earlier articles) about the U.S. presidential election called “I’m Voting for Donald Trump… Here’s Why”, which got picked up by several major news outlets. (Please read the article before judging it by its headline!) I also wrote a follow-up article about the conservative media’s, shall we say, “creative” response to the first one. The pair of pieces generated a lot of discussion, and I was gratified to see the points I’d raised start to surface in more and more mainstream political discussions over the next several weeks. I’m no pundit, but now that I’ve gotten my feet wet, you may very well see more politically-themed articles from me in the future.

You are passionate about a lot of things, which is particularly evident on your Twitter page. What would you say is the first and foremost thing that you are passionate about, besides Dirk?

That changes from week to week, month to month, and year to year. At the moment, it’s politics. I’m captivated by this year’s election cycle, and am always either glued to cable news or tracking the latest polls. The rise of Donald Trump is especially mesmerizing to me. While I despise the man’s character and nearly all of his positions, I find his popularity to be a fascinating reflection of the deeply divided psyche of this country. For me, watching the Republicans stumble their way toward a (likely) contested convention in July is like watching a train wreck unfold in slow motion. I can’t keep my eyes off it.

Who will you be working with in the future? Anything in particular that’s been lined up that you can share with us?

I filmed a scene easier this month with the really hunky Bruce Beckham, who’s making his return to porn after a nearly ten year absence. He’s a really great guy and we had a lot of fun on set! He looks amazingly hot and scruffy; scruff is a big turn-on for me, and I’m sure that my excitement comes through in the scene. I don’t know when it’ll be released yet, but I have a feeling the final edit is going to be great.

On the set of my upcoming fetish film

As for what’s next… I’ve got a scene coming out this May in a new fetish film that looks like a live-action piece of Tom of Finland artwork, or something from Titan’s Fallen Angel series. I’m not allowed to tell you what the title is just yet, but I’ll be at International Mister Leather in Chicago over Memorial Day weekend promoting it.

In the 3 years since we last caught up, a lot has changed. There’s been many newcomers, many leavers, and too many tragedies in the porn world. Who would you say you’re most excited to see come into the industry, and who will you miss the most?

I’m really happy for Dallas Steele. He made a big splash when he joined the Titan stable last year, and he’s already been nominated for two Cybersocket awards and several Grabbys. It was such a pleasure working with him in OUT!, and we quickly became friends. I thought he was great in Blue Collar Ballers (with my hubby Dirk!) and Cauke for President too, and I can’t wait to see what he does next.

On the “departures” side, I’m a little sad that I never got to work with Tom Wolfe before he retired. I’ve met him in person a couple of times; he has this really great energy about him. Oh, what might have been!

Can we still see you exclusively signed to TitanMen for some time to come? We’re always in awe of the films you make with them.

Thanks! I’m having the time of my life. As long as it stays fun, and the Titan guys want to work with me, I’m in!

Are you looking forward to any particular events this year, and which?

Dirk and I are both really looking forward to IML in Chicago where I’ll be promoting the release of the new fetish film. And that weekend is also the Grabby Awards! It’s always a fun show, and a bunch of other Titan guys will be there with us. I was even nominated for Performer of the Year, which is quite an honor and very exciting! Other than that, Dirk and I will be celebrating our fifth anniversary as a couple in September, and every year we’ve returned to the scene of our first meeting: the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. It’s not set in stone yet, but I imagine we’ll go back again this year. It’s a guaranteed good time.

Finally, Jesse, can you tell us if Loud and Nasty is still your favorite scene to make, or if not, what came along to blow it out of the water?

Rogan, Skippy, Dirk, and me

Rogan, Skippy, Dirk, and me

Loud and Nasty will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the first scene I ever filmed with Dirk. In addition to that, the two of us recently had the opportunity to film a four-way scene with a pair of Aussie studs who also happen to be great friends of ours — Rogan Richards and Skippy Baxter — for Rogan’s new website. The four of us together… I’m amazed we didn’t break the bed! It was intense, but also laid-back and really fun. The scene was released on March 14… you can watch it at RoganRichards.com.

I have to say, though, that OUT! just might eclipse Loud and Nasty and the Aussie 4-way as my favorite film yet. I really poured my heart into it, and even created the film’s official website OutBaseball.com. I’m so grateful to Keith Webb for trusting in me to help develop the concept and write the script, to all of the actors in the film for positively nailing their roles, to the entire production team at Titan for really “hitting it out of the park,” so to speak… and especially to director Jasun Mark for working so hard on this little labor of love. I’m just so unbelievably proud to be a part of such an amazing team. After almost five years of working together, they really have become like family to me.

Thanks again for talking with GayDemon. We look forward to catching up with you again soon!

Always a pleasure. Until next time!

Andre Shakti Article Header Crop

Interview: On “Porn Kills Love” (and how we were almost in Cosmo)

Andre Shakti Article Header Crop
Jiz Lee’s excellent book Coming Out Like a Porn Star — which, I’m honored to say, includes two of my essays — was published a couple of weeks ago, and so far the response has been pretty amazing. Thanks to Jiz’s kind referral, a reporter from Cosmopolitan magazine (yes, that Cosmo) even contacted me and Dirk a few weeks ago to be interviewed for an article on real life porn couples. The reporter, Andre Shakti (link NSFW), is an adult film star herself; she identifies as an alt/queer performer, activist, and educator. She sounds like an amazing lady, and chatting with her was both fun and enlightening. During the interview, she even issued me a challenge. (More on that in a moment.)

Anyway, Andre interviewed eleven couples for her article. The inspiration for her piece was a rather dubious organization that has been putting up billboards all over San Francisco that say “PORN KILLS LOVE.” These billboards have apparently been spotted in other parts of California and Nevada — where the majority of American adult films are produced — and Andre wanted us porn couples, who have found love through porn, to weigh in on the PKL campaign. Our thoughts, along with those of the other couples, COLAPS Cover, Very Smallare included in Andre’s article, as well as a little backstory about how Dirk and I met. There’s also an interesting question that Andre asked each couple: “Describe your relationship in one word.” The answers may not surprise you, but they will move you.

All of the stories were equally interesting and compelling, but unfortunately her editors singled out four couples for inclusion in the magazine, and Dirk and I weren’t one of them. (I’m not sure if this is relevant, but I couldn’t help but notice that the four couples who did make the cut are 1. legally married and 2. straight.)

Happily, though, PinkLabel.tv agreed to print the remaining seven profiles, including ours and the other out-and-proud couple that Andre interviewed (Sten and Lily Cade). I’ve reprinted our interview with Andre below, but be sure to check out the rest of Andre’s interviews at Cosmo and Pink Label!

Jesse Jackman & Dirk Caber

Status: Engaged

Name: Jesse Jackman
Age: 42
Location: Boston, MA
Occupation: porn performer & in healthcare IT
Number of years in the industry: 4

Partner: Dirk Caber
Age: 44
Location: Boston, MA
Occupation: classical musician, tuba, piano, vocalist & porn
Number of years in the industry: 5

How’d you meet?

I’d just started working in the porn industry and was trying to navigate my way around the scene, so I started seeking out a community mentor who could help me. A friend of mine introduced me to Dirk Caber, who had been in the industry for about a year already, and we immediately hit it off. At the time I was dating someone who was struggling with my new career and wasn’t too keen on the idea. The very same weekend I met Dirk, my boyfriend broke up with me, saying he couldn’t date someone in porn. Dirk stepped up to support me; he held my hand and saw me through the heartbreak. After some time the relationship turned romantic, and we began seeing each other seriously. The first two years were long distance – me in Boston, Dirk in Chicago – before Dirk moved to Boston to be with me.

Describe your relationship in one word:

Honest.

What was your proposal like?

We exchanged rings on the day that the Supreme Court initially refused to hear appeals in gay marriage cases – October 6, 2014 – setting off a landslide of lower court rulings that eventually led to marriage equality nationwide. We’re having trouble setting a date for our wedding, though, because we can’t figure out where to have it. The problem is that every place that’s “meaningful” to us is like a diner or something – they’re not exactly majestic!

What does marriage mean to you?

We basically already consider ourselves married; we call each other “hubby”, and we’re sharing our life together. We’re not married in the legal sense yet, but we’re already bonded as partners, albeit with a healthy recognition and respect of each other’s autonomy. We encourage and support our lives as individuals as well as our shared life, and that’s paramount. We have one rule: Don’t bring home anything you don’t want to share. It’s applicable to everything from STIs, to sex partners, to pizza!

Are you familiar with the “Porn Kills Love” Campaign? If so, how do you feel about it?

Yes we are! It was brought to our attention several days ago. It looks like they’re not being honest about the basis of the organization [funding the campaign]. In my opinion, it’s a very thinly veiled effort of the Church of Latter Day Saints. All four founders are members of the Mormon Church, and when you look to see where the organization’s domain name is registered, it comes up as Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition, their website cites incomplete “scientific” information presented largely out of context, and the neutrality of their Wikipedia page is currently under dispute. Anyway, my main issue with the organization is that they’re selling porn consumption as an addiction, yet they’re not demonizing other addictions, such as alcohol, in even remotely the same fashion. People who suffer from addiction are genetically and neurologically predisposed to it, a fact which is pretty universally understood. Our society isn’t in the habit of outlawing everything a person could possibly be addicted to – alcohol, gambling, etc. Porn isn’t the enemy; we should be focused on helping people with addictive personalities, not demonizing an industry that provides a healthy sexual outlet for millions of people.

One more thing… at the end of the interview, Andre challenged me to write an article of my own about the Porn Kills Love campaign and the organization, “Fight the New Drug”, that’s sponsoring it. I’ve been thinking about a piece that discusses the nature of addiction and why I believe the target of FTND’s efforts are sadly misaligned. Stay tuned!

The personified anti-stereotype: My German VICE magazine interview

Vice Photo, Resized

During HustlaBall Berlin last weekend, reporter Ronny Matthes (shown with Dirk and me in the photo above) from VICE magazine‘s Berlin bureau approached me to ask me a few questions for an article he was writing about the event. I don’t speak a lick of German, so the interview was conducted in English, and then translated. Thanks to Google Translate — plus the help of my friend Troy Webb, who speaks fluent German — I’m posting my best interpretation of my portion of the article below. I have to say, though, I’m rather tickled by the following phrase: “Jesse Jackman is the personified anti-stereotype of a porn star.”

openquoteIf you’ve spent even a small part of your existence consuming gay porn, then HustlaBall is like a candy shop, because there’s homosexual eye candy running around everywhere. Some of the porn stars I’ve known since my early teenage years; these days, they’re accordingly haggard-looking or overly botoxed. And some are quite out of it. When I interviewed absolute megastar Brent Everett, I have to say afterwards that there was only stammering on the tape.

“It’s such an honor to be here” won’t make it into the Olympus of coherent sentences, but the complete opposite is also possible. Jesse Jackman is the personified anti-stereotype of a porn star. When I met Jesse — who was there with his husband Dirk Caber — we had an intellectual discussion about HIV prevention and sexual ethics in the midst of dozens of drunken, celebrating men who were popping ecstasy tabs into their mouths. “I have a degree in Japanese and another in computer science,” Jesse recounted. He also likes classical music (he plays piano) and blogs for the Huffington Post about politics, art, and issues of personal importance.

But what was Jesse’s answer to this crucial question: Top or Bottom? “I do both. But in the porn industry, I bottom more, because I think there is a demand for bigger, more muscular guys who do.” In fact, Jesse is quite large [1.85 m, or 6′ 1″] compared to other performers. So far I haven’t seen a professional here of more than about 1.70 m (5′ 6″), coming up only to my shoulder. At 42 years old, Jesse is also older than the average porn star. But he isn’t planning on retiring anytime soon. “I’m doing this as long as I enjoy it,” he said, “and there’s no end in sight.”

You can find the entire article in English here, and in German here. I’m also posting a few photos from HustlaBall below… more to come, including (hopefully) some video from when Dirk and I did our live shows!

Dean Beck & 'Hide and Seek' Crop Edit

“Sounding” off with Dean Beck: The Hide and Seek radio interview

JOY 94.9 FM‘s Dean Beck can perhaps be best described as the Australian-born love child of Dan Savage and Adam Carolla. He’s smart, he’s funny, he’s opinionated… and he helms one hell of an entertaining radio show. He’s also been an outspoken advocate of sexual health for years. While we were in Melbourne, Dirk and I were honored to join Dean and the cast of his weekly Hide and Seek broadcast to talk about, among other things, how not to set someone on fire, and why you should never try sounding with a ballpoint pen. (Told you it’s an entertaining show.) Hope you enjoy it… and for more of Dean, be sure to check out the Hide and Seek podcast at http://joy.org.au/hideandseek.
